It’s about time!
I haven’t been blogging lately because frankly the media noise has been so loud that it’s hard to figure out what’s important and what’s just noise. Well, I think this is important. After years in office this is the strongest statement by US Secretary of State Rice regarding violence against women worldwide. Here is another article about how rape is used as a weapon of war. Maybe with only few months left Rice feels like she can afford to speak up in a significant way.

Well welcome back Lilian! This is definitely a good one to come back on. I do hope their resolution is strong, lasting and effective. From rape in war, to sex trafficking, we must address the issue of pornography and how its everyday images make these violent crimes if not acceptable, almost “normal” in our society and in others. Shared Hope International, who fights sex trafficking here in the United States and abroad has a great DVD out about the issue of demand and the need to address pornography as a root issue of sex crimes.

Hmm, unfortunately, laying the responsibility to reform at the feet “international community” is like speaking to outer space. Just who is the “international community?”
